MD Mahafuz Ahmed: Building a Culture of Knowledge and Youth Leadership
MD Mahafuz Ahmed is a name that resonates with humility, intellect, and an unwavering dedication to building a better, more enlightened future. Born in Kushtia, Bangladesh, and originally from Jhenaidah Sadar, he is currently a postgraduate student in the Department of Bangla at Jahangirnagar University.
From an early age, Mahafuz displayed a multidimensional personality. During his student life, he actively engaged in university clubs and organizations. His talents include music (especially playing guitar At “Jalshiri” JU), stage acting, writing, and human rights advocacy. He also worked with the Human Rights Support Society, where his leadership skills made him a driving force behind several student-led initiatives.
Granthasram – More Than Just a Bookstore
Perhaps his most notable contribution is Granthasram, a pioneering book service platform at Jahangirnagar University. Established as the first and only student-led book service on campus, it is a legally recognized and transparently operated initiative.
Located inside the Central Cafeteria and open daily from 9 AM to 10 PM, Granthasram offers thousands of books across genres—world literature, self-help, academic texts, and modern fiction. From Tagore to Sherlock Holmes, from Peter Thiel to Maya Angelou, the collection reflects both global diversity and local relevance. Additionally, the initiative provides valuable part-time employment opportunities for students, who manage and operate the book shelves—integrating practical experience with service to the campus community.
But Granthasram is not just about selling books. It is a movement to foster a culture of reading and critical thinking among students. Its ethical operations, student-led team model, and community spirit have made it a cornerstone of campus life. Under Mahafuz’s leadership, it has grown into a symbol of youth-driven innovation and intellectual responsibility.
His vision extends beyond Jahangirnagar. Mahafuz dreams of expanding book services to underserved rural areas of Bangladesh, ensuring that students in remote regions have the same access to knowledge as their peers in cities.
Aesthetic Sense, Social Values, and Future Ambitions
What makes Mahafuz unique is not only his work ethic or leadership, but also his aesthetic sensibility and cultural depth. With a refined taste in arts and literature, and values grounded in humility and integrity, he continues to inspire those around him.
Despite growing recognition, Mahafuz remains grounded. His philosophy is simple: education is a right, not a privilege, and young people must take the lead in creating the change they want to see.
Conclusion
MD Mahafuz Ahmed’s journey is still unfolding. From student to organizer and entrepreneur, he has shown how knowledge, culture, and service can come together to inspire change. Through Granthasram, he has built more than a book service—it is a testament to how youth-led initiatives can make a lasting social impact. His story reminds us that true success lies not in personal achievement, but in empowering others.
